Miracles in Music

Walt Disney once said “It’s kind of fun to do the impossible.” I couldn’t agree more.Joe at concert

It was five years ago Team Joseph set out on what seemed like an impossible mission of creating “Jammin for Joseph” – a concert that would raise awareness and critical funds for Duchenne research.  It was five years ago, in the middle of a cold, rainy fall afternoon, I first took a tour of the Fillmore and stood in the dimly lit theatre looking around at all the empty seats, first wondering and then believing we could fill them.

It was at that moment Detroit musician Hush and I decided we would launch “Jammin’ for Joseph,” and no matter what skeptics said, we would keep pushing forward, using music as a path for creating miracles.

Since that fall afternoon, “Jammin’ for Joseph” has evolved.  Our media partner and fierce advocate 99.5 WYCD came on board, and with their help, we’re booking national acts from Nashville and filling more seats at the Fillmore every year.

We’ve built some incredible relationships. With the media, who tell the world what we’re all about.  With creative studios who help us tell our story in words and pictures. With restaurants who donate their time and talents to feed our guests. With the staff at the Fillmore who treat us like family and have become wonderful friends. With sponsors and printers and limo companies and hotels and photographers, all who offer to help because they believe we can save this generation of boys from Duchenne.

We’ve forged partnerships with musicians who understand the power of sharing their gift. We’ve seen amazing loyalty and love from guests who keep coming back and volunteers who make the event run smoothly.

Over the past 5 years, on our quest to help create the ultimate miracle – a treatment or cure for Duchenne – we’ve seen and felt countless little miracles – kindness, generosity, compassion, strength, and commitment.  Our crew here at Team Joseph is more certain than ever that with your help we will defeat Duchenne, and we are thrilled to celebrate this possibility with our 5th Jammin’ for Joseph – Wednesday, March 6 at the Fillmore. Detroit native and ACM nominee, Jana Kramer, will headline the show. Universal recording artist Canaan Smith and local favorites Annabelle Road will open.

We hope to see you there!  It’s going to be a great party for all ages: a beautiful celebration that there are miracles in music!
